If you watch movies or television, you certainly see images that you know were shot in front of a green screen or a blue screen, like the weather forecast and the news channels + plus a lot of movies. But have you ever wondered about the history of this technique and how it was made in the 19th century and how it evolved? I'll let you with some interesting videos about this subject!
And here's a short version about the beginning of green screen before the computer's era.
I also share the trailer of Mary Poppins, from 1964, where the technique of the "sodium vapor process" was used. (Learn more about this technique in the first video of this post, at 10:30).
Saturday, 14th, Måns Mariette with "Don’t Stop Believing", and in third was Jon Henrik Fjällgren with "Jag är fri (Manne Leam Frijje)".
But now let's talk about the winner!
Although it was said that Måns' song was very similar to a music by David Guetta, it didn't stopped the 11 international jury's plus the Swedish people to choose him.
The song is called "Heroes" and the main message in the song is that people can be a hero if they want. In a way it also encourages the respect of nature, like in:
The crickets sing a song for you
And also in
Now go sing it like a hummingbird
(Songs with the theme of nature remind me the first songs of Portugal in ESC, seriously the majority of them in the beginning of the contest only talked about nature!)

And now my opinion about the performance:
I was really impressed to see the technique of video mapping in a contest like this. For the folks who don't know what video mapping is, its a projection technique where usually buildings, important monuments or even bodies are illuminated using one or more projectors which can have an animation or recorded video or even live footage. It's not a completely new technique but it exists since some time ago. I was not expecting to encounter video mapping on a performance at Melodifestivalen, because this technique that require a lot of time to prepare; it's required time to set up the projectors and the objects, in this case, the wall and the bench, and it's needed time to map those objects into a software, for eg. Resolume. Next the animations are created and then synced with timecode so that it triggers at the time of music.
The graphics and animations were interesting and I think they made justice to the lyrics of the song.
If I had to define this performance in one word it would be INTERACTION. Måns is always "interacting" with the animated fellas. It was nice!
Without wind machines, fog machines or even confetti machines, this performance is going to revolutionize the contest!
The lyrics are interesting, and I'm looking forward to see how Sweden is going to bring "Heroes" into Eurovision. Will they use holograms?!? We will have to wait to see...
Good luck Sverige!
Here's an UPDATE with a side by side comparison with the melodifestivalen and Eurovision performance!
PS: in case you don't know, he won the ESC contest!
Yesterday (7th of March), "Festival da Canção", the national Portuguese selection for ESC was held in the studios of RTP in Lisbon. Leonor Andrade was elected by televoting. She became known in the TV show "The Voice Portugal".
Here it is her live performance with the song "Há um mar que nos separa" (There's a sea that separates us).
Watch the performance here http://media.rtp.pt/festivaldacancao/videos/leonor-andrade-ha-um-mar-que-nos-separa/
And this is the studio version of the song
Here's a video of Leonor when she participated in "The Voice Portugal"
If you're a fan like me of Melodifestivalen (haven't I told you?), you may be asking yourself "what does the live audience see at the arena?".
Well, probably the best seat is the sofa at home because we must not forget that this is a TV show, so the target are the people watching on their screens. Of course it's great to be part of it live, and who knows, you may appear in the end on one of the songs clapping and cheering for your favorite artist!
I've compiled some videos captured by fans during this year selection.
You can watch them below, or save the playlist on Youtube to see later, because if you haven't seen yet, I also have a Youtube channel called "PPG" where I post some of my work. To visit it click on the Youtube icon in the upper bar on the blog or at the side bar!
I nice way to teach people how to greet others!

Have you ever stood on a cinema, looking at the movie poster's and wondering which one are you going to watch??? If that's the case, or if you're just interested in making a poster or a cover for your own work, the following stuff may interest you!
There's a Spanish creative studio called Barfutura, which released in 2012 a project for a poster design entitled " The Title". If your're a noob at design, maybe this poster-template-style may give you some help. It has everything a poster needs to have!
The Swedish national selection for ESC just started, so today I'm sharing the 3 performances that were eliminated, and also the 2 songs that are going to the second chance show.
Remember that SVT doesn't keep their videos online forever, so you must hurry up to watch them!
Do you usually watch online TV? Well, Consumer Eletronics Show 2015 is live from Las Vegas with the showcase of some of the products that are going to stores during this year. They showcase a lot of stuff, not only TV's! There are some live streams from the place, the one I share today is from Engadget.
