Today I give you some tips so that you don't stress out in your computer!
Sometimes when you make a video call online, you may have realized that the sound is not always synchronized with the picture. This is not horrible but if you're making a video, the voice must be aligned with the talent's mouth.
Here's my tips to make it easier to sync audio in post:
- I also recomend to clap your hands in the end of the action, just in case you can't sync it properly by using the initial clap. (Sometimes when videos are longer than 40 minutes or so, camcorders usually splitthe video into multiple files).
- Forget your clapboard (seriously), unless you want to carry something with you always on your hands. If you want to identify your camera angle, scene or take, use instead a washable piece of plastic and a white board marker, or use a writing app, and then show it in front of the camera (make sure to focus the phone or the piece of plastic, and then refocus again the subject). Although I show this information for the camera I also say it loudly for the sound recorder.
- When making a music video using playback (track already recorded), before the music starts, I add some "beep" sounds like this one below from www.freesound.org . I always use this sound when I make playback videos. I duplicate this sound to make it longer and I also repeat it a few times with some pauses between it (like in the image above, but the waveform will be a bit more "geometrical", but it works with the same principle). You can also transfer it and use it on your phone, if you have a loud speaker!
Depending on your editing software, sometimes your frame rate may change without you notice and the sound will shift, so make sure to chose the project's frame rate the same as the original file.
I use those tricks, because I mainly make music videos, like this one, **self promoting time!**!
